Hey i just recovered my ST31000340NS 1tb ES.2 HDD from the BSY error. It has firmware MA07 but i cant find any updates except a dead link to MA08. I cant use seagates official firmware as it says its incompatible with the Dell firmware. Anyone got any links for an update so i dont have to worry about the <TOU Violation> BSY error??
What's the model of your Dell?
Please post back and let me know if you need more help.
Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1000gb capacity.
Sorry, I asked what's the model of your Dell?
What do you mean? thats everything i have for the drive
The model of your computer.
my computer is custom built, the only dell part is the HDD. Problem is, i cant find the firmware.
Ok, sorry about my density. Because the drivers are searchable only by PC model, I had to do a bit of trial and error but found this update. It's not the one you mentioned but it's the most current.
This is great, thanks! ill post back if it works.
Just tried this. When it boots i get the error message 'failed to load kernel' - im on windows 7 64x ultimate.
Are you booting with the CD you created from the ISO?
Yes, i boot with the cd and it just comes up with 'failed to load kernel' i have to hard reset it in order to get the computer to reboot as there is no option to do so.
I really have no idea what the problem is.
I have the exact same problem (Dell drive, not a full system) and I tried the link you provided but the link no longer works. I also have the MA07 firmware and can't find an update anywhere. Do you know where I can get this .ISO? Thanks for your help.
I'm not able to find anything. Did you contact Seagate?
Seagate sent me to Dell since the drive came out of a Dell server and has a Dell logo on it. I went around and around for awhile with Dell technical support and eventually got nowhere since they require a Service Tag but all I have is the disk drive and serial number, which is apparently not sufficient to report a broken hyperlink on their "support" (I use the term loosely) page. Here's the page Seatools sent me to:
This tells me to "upgrade all drives to MA08 firmware R214796.exe." The reference "R214796.exe" is underlined as a hyperlink and when I click it I get "Details for this driver are currently unavailable. Please try again later." This has been true for a week and all I wanted to do was report the broken link but the technical support people have a script and if you don't have a Service Tag they won't go to the next item on their script.
