I have a Dell windows 7 64bt desktop
It has a "PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16ABS PD11" cd / dvd drive - it's one with a tray that slides out.
It recently stopped recognising any form of media at all. It just spins, autoejects, and asks for me to insert a valid disc. I have tried many CDs, DVDs all of which work on other drives.
I have updated drivers in the windows control panel - no impact
I have logged into my dell account and entered my computers code. It listed about 6 PLDS drivers, however none were the right name for my drive. I tried all of them nonetheless, but all refused to run as I didn't have the dvd drive they expected.
I have googled for drivers and firmware, but cannot find a download site.
Please advise what I can do from here.
Run the Dell Diagnostics to test the drive. The Diagnostics should be on your hard drive. Press F12 at startup while the blue Dell is on the screen. This will take you to the boot menu where the Utility Partition or Diagnostics will be a choice. Run the Custom Test for the drive and have a data CD or DVD (not music CD or movie DVD) in the drive for the read test.
Thank you very much indeed for the suggestion. The diagnostic reveals I need a new drive.
Searching for "PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16ABS PD11" doesn't reveal an identical match available on the Dell website, or indeed anywhere.
Can you recommend a suitable replacement?
Thank you! Mark
Any desktop SATA DVD burner will work.
