HL-DT-ST DVD -RW GSA-T11N in Vostro 1500

Ok, so I recently installed some of  microsofts windows updates.  However, it has caused a Code 19 Error with the drivers for my DVD drive.  I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, same error.  I have downloaded the new firmware for my drive, but I can't even do the flash because the program to flash cannot find the drive so I cannot do an update.  Has anyone else had any problems like this or can possibly give me some information on how to fix this issue?

I'm running Windows XP Proffessional

  • Your driver is fine.  It is a generic one from Microsoft that all
optical drives use.  Firmware is not a driver and is not the problem.
You likely have a Filters issue.  The article below has instructions
for editing the Registry to remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters.
Upon reboot, Windows will write them correctly.  Below the picture
there is a utility that will do it for you.  Give this a try.
