Driver for DOS recognize NEC 6500A DVD+-RW in Latitude X300?

  • I have a Latitude X300 with Windows XP Pro and D/Bay use the NEC 6500A DVD Record with firmware v203D (the last). I make a Boot CD with MSCDEX.EXE in Autoexec.bat and VIDE-CDD.SYS in Config.sys, but my NEC 6500A is not recognized. I yet try others drivers for DOS, but nothing... Please, anybody can help me?

    Thank´s.
    Heyder
  • You also need to add the drive letter.

    Using MSCDEX.EXE /D:mscd001 /M:15 /L:T will assign drive letter T to your DVD.
  • Thank´s cdrom_mon for your reply, but I not make work. May autoexec.bat e config.sys:

    AUTOEXEC.BAT

    @ECHO OFF
    SET DIRCMD=/O:GN/A/P
    SET PROMPT=$P$G
    LH MSCDEX /D:NECCD /M:15 /L:E

    CONFIG.SYS

    DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
    BUFFERS=30,0
    FILES=151
    DOS=UMB
    LASTDRIVE=Z
    FCBS=4,0
    SWITCHES=/F
    DOS=HIGH
    rem DEVICEHIGH=NECATAPI.SYS /D:NECCD
    DEVICEHIGH=VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:NECCD
    rem DEVICEHIGH=USBASPI.SYS /v /w /e
    rem DEVICEHIGH=USBCD.SYS /d:NECCD

    The others DEVICEHIGH I too try... but unsuccess.

    More any help?

    I thank you, friend.

    Heyder

  • Try grabbing the USB/1394 optical drivers for DOS from the support website (see copy and paste form the dell website below) The package is R56407.exe.

    Hope this helps.
    Max.

    System Utilities: Dell USB+1394 CDROM, Driver, MS-DOS, Multi Language, Multi System, v.1.00, A00Release Date: 02/04/2003Description: This driver adds the ability to access USB and IEEE-1394 optical drives (e.g. CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD- ROM) from DOS. For example, to access an optical drive in a Dell D/Bay, D/Dock module bay, or IEEE- 1394 connection.
  • Thank you, Max,

    I ask you: Some exists parameter for use with EXTCD. SYS?  I try:

    DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
    BUFFERS=30,0
    FILES=151
    DOS=UMB
    LASTDRIVE=Z
    FCBS=4,0
    SWITCHES=/F
    DOS=HIGH

    DEVICEHIGH=EXTCD.SYS /D:NECCD

    When the device is read not there any mistake message. But, in Autoexec.bat, the line MSCDEX /D:NECCD /L:E generate a error message that say:

    "Device driver not found: ´NECCD´

    No valid CDROM device crivers selected"

    Where I am error?

    Can you help me?

    Heyder

  • Try this instead:
    device=extcd.sys /d:wdl-usb

    Use the same "/d:wdl-usb" for mscdex.

    Fyi, these info can be found from Dell Drivers and Utilities Bootable CD that came with your Latitude.

  • :smileyvery-happy: Thank you, 1Wells !!!
