Yesterday I bought a Inspiron 660 and I bought a EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti - 2GB Superclocked video card to upgrade from the intergrated Intel HD Graphics card already in there. I received my computer and then went to Best Buy to pick up my card only to find out when I cracked the Inspiron 660 open the power supply had no supplemental power cables! So, I cannot run my new card! I am very disappointed, my old Dell Dimension E510 had supplemental power cables and handled my XFX GeForce 8600 GTS fine! Why would this supposedly newer, faster, and better model not handle this EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti? Is there anything I can do to remedy the situation before I have to factory reset and return this hunk-o-junk?
Is there a 500 Watt Power Source and Cables that anyone recommend to me?
HERE are a few suggestions. The GTX 550 Ti should only take one PCIe 6-pin power cable. All of these have two though.
Inspirons will usually just come with the 300 watt power supply in the mini towers. You have to move to the XPS line to get larger power supplies. Video cards today are more power efficient. Cards of the past that needed power connections do not today at certain levels of performance. There are many cards today that will outperform the old 8600 GTS that do not require any power connections.
I regret to inform you that this computer does not have supplemental power cables. However, you can get any PCI express graphics card compatible with 300W power supply.
The graphics card that have been tested with this computer are nVIDIA GeForce® GT 620 graphics card that has a 700 MHz engine clock, 1 GB memory with memory clock of 1.8 Gbps DDR3.

I am keeping my current card. I need to know now what power supply and power supply accessories I may need as this card needs two peripheral cables from the power source and I would need to know of any thing I may need regarding future upgrades such as a second DVD/CD player and a second HDD. I'm looking for an upgraded graphics card as well for my Inspirion 660. However, I cant find one with a 300w power supply. They all seem to require 350 w. Including the Geforce 620 on your site. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks. Can you confirm that the 660 has a "minimum power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amps"? I've seen this requirement for several cards.
Since the actual make of the power supply can vary, it is best if you open your case and look at the sticker information on the side of the power supply. It should tell you how many amps you have on your +12 volt rails. Dells normally have two +12 volt rails. Look at the wattage shown under both rails if it is displayed this way and then divide that number by 12. That will give you your total amps on the power supply.
Because it's an "every day computing", lower-end desktop, whereas the Dimension is mid-range, and designed to be more upgradeable. I am waiting for my Inspiron 660s to arrive, fully knowing that it definitely will not have any power connectors for any video cards.
1. Does the dell 660 (core i5-3330) have intel hd graphics 4000 or 2500 as standard?
2. Is the dell inspirion 660 considered a mini tower? If so will it still accomodate a regular sized radeon 7750. I understand the 660s slimline is limited to a low profile card, however can the regular 660 chasis accomodate a normal sized radeon 7750.
3. There are a few 7750 cards with a passive heatsink instead of a fan on the gpu. (ex. sapphire UltimatE 7750)
the addition of the heatsink will mean that the space of Two slots will be taken up. Can the 660 chasis still accomodate this type of card.
4. If i open the desktop chasis to install a new 7750, will it void the warranty on my system?

Specs on the NewEgg website indicate:
Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
The 7750 doesn't need a 400-watt power supply. That's a red herring. Since it doesn't have a PCIe auxiliary power connector, it must draw all its power from the PCI Express bus, and that is limited to 75 watts. I think the 7750's power consumption is closer to 50 watts. (Look at how small the heatsink is.)
