Advice on recommended Graphic Card for Dell XPS 720 H2C

This question has suggested answer(s)
Hi, I have a Dell XPS 720 H2C machine with the following specification :- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz overclocked to 2.93GHz 8Gb DDR2-SDRAM (PC2-6400 / 800 MHz) Corsair Memory 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Graphic cards running in SLI mode 2.5Tb SATA Total HDD Disc Storage 1 x DVD-CDRW optical drive 1 x DVD-RW optical drive Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (64-bit) Operating System I've had the unit about 6 years and it runs fine. I'm looking to upgrade the Graphics hardware from its current 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Graphic cards running in SLI mode and installed to a PCI Express x16 interface.I would like some advice on what's the best performing and most suitable card available for this particular Dell model.I'd be looking to purchase two cards for SLI configuration. Thanks.

  • If you aren't going to upgrade your power supply then I would not recommend equivalent cards due to them needing 450w per card vs the 300w per card that the 8800's use.

    8800 GTX GPU Engine Specs

    CUDA Cores     575
    Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 36.8

    Memory Specs

    Memory Clock   900MHz
    Standard Memory Config   768MB
    Memory Interface Width    384-bit
    Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec)  86.4

    This graphics card requires:

PCI Express®-compliant motherboard with one x16 graphics slot

2 6-pin supplementary power connectors power supply (with 12V current rating of 30A)  SLI would be 60A

The power cord for the 1000w PSU is different from the 750.
It is a rectangle shape and has 3 flat, thin openings on it.

2R328 Power Cord for 1KW Systems

  • I was able to install an NVIDIA GTX 280 with no issues. The Dell XPS 720 H2c has 1KW power supply and its good enough to power any new video card as long as its a PCIe x16.

  • Thanks for the information but I've just purchased and installed 2 x GV-N75TOC-2GI - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC, 2GB GDDR5 (128 Bit), 2xHDMI, 2xDVI  (SLI mode) and works perfectly fine.
