Event ID 9: "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period."

  • I bought a Dimension 8300 with 2 RAID 0 drives at the end of January. Recently I started getting a lot of ID 9 errors in the system event log - "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period."

    Anyone got any idea if this would be DVD drive or RAID HD related? I haven't noticed any system problems. BTW, there is usually no CD in the drive when I get this error.

  • This would be the hard drive. You should first try reseating the connection to this drive to clear any connection problems then test the system with the Dell Customer Diagnostics. This program came with your system on the drivers and utilities CD. You will need to boot the system with this CD to run the tests. You will also need to have media in all drives for the tests to complete properly.
