CD/DVD (Optical) drive not showing up in Windows 8 (OptiPlex 9010)

This question is not answered

Hi - I just purchased an OptiPlex 9010 desktop and the CD/DVD (optical) drive is not showing up in Windows 8.  Here are the steps I've taken.

  • The drive has power, the CD tray will open.
  • I can boot from optical media and install, but cannot see it in Windows 8
  • I can't find any drivers on the drivers page listed for my system for this
  • ** Hardware manager sees the device, but says it's no longer connected.
  • Trying to update the driver though hardware manager says that the device has the best driver already.
  • I notice that when configuring a new system, that it says a different drive is needed?  Does that mean this drive will not work w/ Windows 8?..

Thanks.
