Inspiron 530S won't power up

Inspiron 530s will not power on. Machine had been running well with Win7 Home and was kept up to date. Was shut down properly. There is NO beep code given.

The amber led is lit solid on the mother board.

Power on button has no color indication.

DC Power connector, P1, has 5vdc to pin 9 (purple) and pin 16 (green).

The battery is good.

Swapped AC power cables with known good cable.

Reseated memory and all cables.

Removed all unnecessary hardware and peripherals.

    Welcome to the community.

    It seems to be an issue with the motherboard or the power supply. Try to do a flee power by removing all the cables and pressing and holding the power button for 10 secs. Then put the the cable back in and switch it on. Check for any beep codes or power button lights.

    If the power light is off — The computer is either turned off or is not receiving power.

    • Reseat the power cable into both the power connector on the back of the computer and the electrical outlet.
    • If the computer is plugged into a power strip, ensure that the power strip is plugged into an electrical outlet and that the power strip is turned on. Also bypass power protection devices, power strips, and power extension cables to verify that the computer turns on properly.
    • Ensure that the electrical outlet is working by testing it with another device, such as a lamp.

    If the power light is steady blue and the computer is not responding — See Beep Codes.

    If the power light is blinking blue — The computer is in standby mode. Press a key on the keyboard, move the mouse, or press the power button to resume normal operation.

    If the power light is steady amber — Power problem or internal device malfunction.

    If the power light is blinking amber — The computer is receiving electrical power, a device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.

    Eliminate interference — Some possible causes of interference are:

    • Power, keyboard, and mouse extension cables
    • Too many devices on a power strip
    • Multiple power strips connected to the same electrical outlet

  • Tried all of the suggestions to this problem. Still NO beep codes, no power button light, Mother Board still has amber led lit solidly. The computer is out of warranty at this point. Not sure if the PS is bad or not.

  • It's cheaper to replace the power supply than the mainboard, and power supply failure is more common.
