I have a Vostro 460MT on which I have set up a system password to enter on machine switch on.
Trouble is that the keyboard hangs after entering about 3 characters of the password.
If I turn the PC off and back on, it usually hangs again on entering the password but if I'm lucky it will accept it.
I have unplugged the keyboard from the USB port and plugged back in again.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue please ?
Do you have the keyboard plugged into a REAR USB port? If not, give that a try, do not use the front USB or an external USB hub.
Also, do you have another keyboard you can try? Could be the keyboard is the problem.

Yes its plugged into a rear USB port.
I do have a spare keyboard so I'll try that out.
I'm still experiencing this problem and I have tried another keyboard. I've also tried plugging the keyboard into a different USB port and even tried the front USB ports as well.
The BIOS is up to date.
It must be a fault with the computer ?
