installing a second hard drive on dell inspiron 531s

This question is not answered

I am having trouble installing an ide hard drive, I connected it to SATA 2 on the motherboard using a bidirectional IDE to SATA adapter .  I went into Setup menu and then to "advanced" and then "integrated peripherals" and then "serial ATA configuration" and set it to SATA controller: 1 + 2.  I set RAID to disabled.  I don't remember the boot priority since i changed it so many times.  I dont see the new hard drive anywhere.  Any info is greatly appreciated!

Have you set the IDE hard drive's jumpers to the 'Master' setting?

  • someone gave me this hard drive and it didn't bring jumpers.  On the picture it shows master setting without jumpers anyway.  Its a western digital 80G, model WD800.

Isn't the 'No jumper' setting for single hard drives, not 'Master'?
