Dell Dimension 8300 Processor

This question has suggested answer(s)

Hi, I recently removed the heatsink and damaged my processor by bending a lot of the pins. Since I have to put a new processor in I was thinking of just putting a faster one in. Is the motherboard compatible with any Pentium 4 chip as long as it's a Socket 478? Could I put a 3.2 or 3.4GHZ chip in?  Thanks.

would this chip work?

It depends on the age of the system, the first generation of 8300 will not take anything over 2.8 GHz.

  • I ordered my Dimension 8300 in 12/2003 and have a P4 3.2GHz processor running BIOS A07.

    Hope this helps...
