Hi, I recently removed the heatsink and damaged my
processor by bending a lot of the pins. Since I have to put a new processor in
I was thinking of just putting a faster one in. Is the motherboard compatible with any Pentium 4 chip as long as it's a Socket 478? Could I put a 3.2
or 3.4GHZ chip in? Thanks.
Dell Dimension 8300
Pentium 4, 2.60c (800mhz) Socket 478
would this chip work?
It depends on the age of the system, the first generation of 8300 will not take anything over 2.8 GHz.

I ordered my Dimension 8300 in 12/2003 and have a P4 3.2GHz processor running BIOS A07.
Hope this helps...
