Optiplex GX270 power up problem

  • I have a couple of Optiplex GX270 computers and all of them are having the same issue, seems like a defect... When i turn on the computer, the power light comes on but nothing happens, the monitor doesnt come on. sometimes what i do is unplug the power supply leave it for a while then plug it back in and it works for a while before it happens again... now that temporary fix does not work anymore, i've tried changing the power supply doesnt work, tried changing the memory doesnt work, tried changing the AVG card doesnt work..
     
    ANY ONE HAS ANY IDEA HOW TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.... Short of me throwing away these computer.
     
     
  • Bad capacitors on the motherboard. If the bad caps are replaced it will work again.

  • how do i identify this capaciter, can i be replace easily?
  • if its in warrenty phone dell support for replacements, if not then you can identify them by swollen tops or leaking eletrcolye, they would need replaced by someone who knows what their doing the support from dell just replaces the motherboard
  • That "IS" under warranty I can assure you of that.
  • Would this event be considred a "thermal event"? A friend of mine gave me her GX270 to look at as a "final" opinion of sorts. The opinion of others was that it was the motherboard. her computer would boot up and then after a few seconds (after the BIOS startup) the computer would go black.

    And I'm assuming the computer would have to be sent back to Dell for the replacement capacitors? This isn't something "anyone" could do?

    I've just looked through about 15 pages of the forum and most of the posts are on the GX270 mombo issue. I'm going to go with the consensus of the forum, but I will check the capacitors to see if they are visibly showing the bulges. But from the problems the computer is having, it's safe to say it is the capacitors.
  • maybe..however you should do the dianostics suggested on the website to troubleshoot a thermal event error incase it isnt, then check the capacitors. Dell will most likely ask you to do this anyway

  • I was checking the diagnostic ligts at the back of the computer, i notice that the first 3 lights (A,B,C) are yellow. in the owner's manual that comes with the computer the don't have a senario with this, only two yellow on (A,B) which would indicate a memory problem. This is not a memory problem
  • that particular code shows some sort of BIOS failure
