Optiplex GX270 - Is there a USB boot option in bios ?

  • Hi,
My Optiplex GX270 Small form factor base unit does not allow me to boot via a USB device

I have checked the Bios Configuration and I  cant seem to be able to a USB item to the boot list.

I find this quite strange bcos most pc's that i have come in contact with will low you to do this.

Further when you press the F12 key, the bootable list does not contain a USB device bootable option !
I have updated to the latest BIOS and still no joy

    any ideas?
    Thanks
  • Unless legacy USB is enabled and a bootable device AKA Floppy or Hard drive or memory key is attached and ready to boot it wont show the device as an option in the F12 menu.

  • Hi. I have an USB wich is perfectly booteable.

I have pressed F12 on boot and I have choose the option 6 (Boot from an USB).

It's saids me that there is a boot problem, and no more.

    What can I do?

    Thanks!

  • If the usb stick is not properly formatted it will not boot.

Older bios tend to Not Like Booting anything but FAT16 so 2 gigs is max for bootable flash.

Newer Bios can see FAT32 so that Limit is removed.

There is also a 2TB limit.

Dos, SYSLINUX 4.xx/ etc are useful for this.

The original SYSLINUX, used for booting from FAT filesystems (such as floppy disks and USB drives).

ISOLINUX, used for booting from CD-ROM ISO 9660 filesystems.
