How do I remove "Alert! Previous Fan Failure" message on Op.G1?

  • I have just replaced my CPU to a Powerleap SlotWonder w/ Celeron 1.2Ghz processor. Since I no longer needed my old fan I took it out, and eversince I took it out I get an "Alert! Previous Fan Failure" message every time I start up my computer. So I tried putting back in my old fan, and when I did that my computer would start up and run for a few minutes, and shut down by it self automaticley. So I took it out again and that message popped up again.

    Thanks:smileyhappy:
  • The fan failure message is because the motherboard is not detecting the fan rotation - these Dells have fans with sensotrs in them; it then issues the warning and will shut down.  The older powerleap model had a special GX1 version that cured this issue; I don't know whether the slotwonder is available in a GX1 version but you could ask Powerleap - the G1 is similar to the GX1.  If there isn't a special version, you will either have to refit the fan (if it is a case fan); or take the fan off the old CPU heatsink (if a SFF case) and connect it back up, securing it firmly out of the way in the case - I used tie wraps to fix it to the rear ventilation holes on my GX110 when faced with a similar situation.  Finally, there is a method whereby you can short certain pins on the fan header to fool the motherboard; search in the Optiplex and Dimension forums for this....

  • Well I guess I will just ignore the message for the time being. It doesn't mess with the operation of my PC. Anyway, thanks for the advice.
  • On some models, the bios will also shut down the machine after a while with a "thermal failure" message.....I don't know if this is the case with the G1 however.
