Can GX150 boot from an external USB CD-RW drive?

  • Hello,

We have a Dell Optiplex GX150, which comes with a plain CD-Rom reader Drive. Because of its non-standard housing (called "small form factor"), it won't take in an internal optical disk drive, the only choice we have is to get an external/USB CD-RW drive.

Can we boot from this external CD-RW drive? If so, what steps must we take? I currenly have the A06 version. I will update to the most current BIOS, which is A11.

In case you're wondering why I want to boot from an external CD-RW drive, it is because we'll be trying out various Linux distributions/flavors.

    Thank you.
