Precision 530 upgrade from Dual Xenon 1.7Ghz to the fastest possible

  • I want to upgrade my Precison 530 (Service Tag 6PPH70J) with the fastest dual processors that I can put in. Which one are these? Where do I get them from?
  • You already have the fastest Foster Xeons CPUs, your motherboard can accept. To get Prestonia class CPUs (1.8 - 3.0 GHz) you need to upgrade your motherboard to 3N384:

  • i just buy a workstation precision 530mt and i have dual Xeon 2.0ghz (256k) some people put 2.8ghz with 512k cache (still on 400mhz bus). Ask Intel the chipset of the board its intel 860. If you know the answer plz email me, i want to know too what is the maximum i can get.
  • Oops! I forgot that there is a 2.0GHz Foster CPU:

Look for SL5TH on eBay. This is the fastest CPU you can get for the Foster class motherboard.
  • I had no idea there were different motherboards for hte 530!!!

How do I find out what version I have and what speed CPUs it supports?
  • Will these work with my 32NCC mother borad
Intel P4 Xeon 2.0GHz CPU Socket 604 RARE

didn't know what the socket 604 means the spec on my 530 states socket F?
    Thanks for the info
  • Run

SiSoftware Sandra (http://www.sisoftware.net/) and select "CPU and BIOS Information"

    or

    CPU-Z utility (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php)

  • What do I need to upgarde to the two 2.0ghz cpu from one 1.4 ghz cpu.

Do I have to reinstall the os as well?

When looking in the box I notice a slot next to the cpu what is that for?

  • Found out what the slot is for

    where do i get a VRM ?

Or should i just buy a used 530 and forget upgrading this one?

  • How do I find out what revision motherboard I have?
  • I'm going to open up a nasty can of worms, ask what it will take to replace the dual Xeon systemboard with an aftermarket (AMD) systemboard.  Does the powersupply have standard connectors?  I don't mind making custom connections for the front panel connections but has anybody else tried this?
  • How2do,

how did you get the sata drives configured into the scsi/ide 530 board?

also is max processor speed  3.0 or 2.8
