Thanks, but another doubt, I was telling my friend about upgrading the ram as well and he said that I need a new motherboard, is that true?
The Vostro 200s, supports a maximum of 4gb of DDR2 RAM.
Bev, all --
I know this is an old thread that has been cited many times in Dell Forums-- I've even seen it quoted in Tom's Hardware, for example. But here's a pretty simple question: If the FSB of the Vostro 200 cannot operate faster than 800Mhz, and the memory spec of DDR2 cannot operate faster than 800Mhz, why should you bother to put anything faster than Conroe E4700 into a Vostro 200? Won't any faster processor be bottlenecked by everything on the FSB?
Put another way: You'd never see the full benefits of an E8500 Wolfdale (or any CPU that operates faster than 800 Mhz FSB) in a Vostro 200.
Thanks for the feedback--
