Dell Inspiron 530 no sound

This question is not answered

Somehow my speakers have quit working. - my volume control icon shows a red x with a popup "No Audio Output Device is installed".  Have reinstalled my Realtek HD sound card drivers, reinstalled the Chipset then the soundcard and drivers, and still no sound and same error message. What could I be doing wrong?

Did the sound drivers install correctly? (no errors).  First thing, uninstall the Sound in the Device Manager then restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and install the sound.  If it does not and you are sure the sound drivers are the correct ones and installed properly it would suggest a problem with Windows, and if it is it will take a complete new install to get it going.
