Dimension 5150 no sound devices showing - Audio drivers needed (Dell website no use)

  • After reinstalling XP and pasting all drivers from my old HD onto the new HD ( from C/Windows/System32/Drivers to the same folder on new HD) I have no sound from my speakers. Ive had a look in device manager and under sound video and game controllers there is a 'PCI Device' with an exclamation mark next to it. I dont have a PCI soundcard so not sure whether this is related to my problem. Ive tried looking on the dell drivers website for my model number but from the list of 3 none work with my system (not compatible with Dimension 5150 even though the list is supposed to be all drivers for my model!) In control panel-sounds&Audio device properties there is no default device listed for sound playback, sound recording or midi music playback and the boxes are all greyed out!!! I deleted the device and when rebooting it is recognised as "Audio device on High definition Audio bus"... the dell website driver list for my model is at Ive also got a system snapshot using SIW under sound video and game controllers-Audio codecs it says: Property Value Device ID ROOT\MEDIA\MS_MMACM Status 0x0180000b Started Problem 0x00000000 (0) Service audstub Capabilities 0x00000000 Config Flags 0x00000000 Class MEDIA Manufacturer (Standard system devices) Hardware IDs MS_MMACM Class GUID {4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Enumerator name ROOT Description Audio Codecs Driver {4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002 Physical Object Name \Device\0000002d Install State 0x00000000 Device Configuration File c:\windows\inf\wave.inf Used File C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\audstub.sys InfPath wave.inf InfSection MS_MMACM InfSectionExt .NT ProviderName Microsoft DriverDateData 00 80 62 C5 C0 01 C1 01 DriverDate 7-1-2001 DriverVersion 5.1.2535.0 MatchingDeviceId ms_mmacm DriverDesc Audio Codecs Class MEDIA Sound, video and game controllers Installer32 MmSys.Cpl,MediaClassInstaller EnumPropPages32 MmSys.Cpl,MediaPropPageProvider TroubleShooter-0 hcp://help/tshoot/tssound.htm Icon 3004 Any help appreciated as to what driver I need?!! • Well after reading about exactly the same problm for someone with a Dell 9200 (see below link) I have resolved things, for now at least. I removed the Audio Device that wasnt recognised in Device manager, THEN downloaded the sigmatel driver from dell website which allowed me to install, then rebooted and it accepted it. Dont think it was the same driver as before but it will do. Major problems getting dell to supply the correct audio drivers on their website
