Unable to register laptop that was returned by previous buyer

Bought laptop that was returned by a previous buyer at bestbuy store.

Laptop registered under previous owner before he returned it.

I need to change it to my name as I'm the owner of the laptop.

I have proof of purchase / receipt and bank statements.

Bestbuy can't help me with previous customer info. Alienware says I need to go back to bestbuy. Dell phone support says I need previous owner and go talk to bestbuy.

I'm stuck with no where to turn to. In need of desperate help.

Tried twitter with no resolution. I own this laptop. help?
