Hi I received new Vostro A860 with Vista Home Basic a week back. I have installed all the software I think is needed. I am planning to give this to a family member who is not a techy. I am wondering whether there is any easy way to create a recovery image of C: drive and save it in a hidden partition on the hard disk. This is why I think is needed. If the system gets into a weird state (may be a virus or spamware infected the pc), then you can choose "Recover from an image..." option during

I got new A860 laptop couple of weeks back from DELL. This mroning I put it to standby by closing it. After couple of mintes, I opened it hoping windows will transition from sleep to my account. Instead it was dead. I didn't see any hard disk activity. I pressed power button. No difference. I pressed ENTER key. That didn't make any difference. I remember the battery had 50% charged before I put it to standby mode. I am sure it is not dead battery issue. Then I connected power cord to it.

Hi I am running XP Professional with NVidia Geforce FX 5200 card. It has VGA out as well as DVI out. Last week I got a new 22 inch monitor. It is Dell 2208WFP. When I connect the monitor using DVI port, monitor's auto detect is saying that it is not detecting any signal. I see blank screen. I downloaded latest drivers from nVidia site and installed them. I don't see any difference. Still no signal from dvi port. Luckily I have old 17inch VGA monitor. I connected it on VGA port of nVidia card

I talked to dell support after going through the online trouble shooting guide. They suggested it is is due to fault power supply. I called dell sales to order a replacement as my pc is out of warranty. It should be here in a week. I thought it would be expensive. But it is 29.99 + taxes + shipping. I am getting a proper dell part for this. I will see how it goes. Thanks for ur help. Key words: 8300 doesn't boot up, 8300 power problem, 8300 has faulty power supply

I bought my dell dimension 8300 in Feb of 2004. It has been working fine till today. Today I found it turned off. When I press the power button at the front, I don't hear hard disk noise or floppy drive sound. Its just dead. It doesn't boot up. I opened the case and cleaned everything with air duster. That didn't make difference. But I see green led glowing right by SATA connector. I saw some posts here that the power supply that comes with 8300 are not that reliable. I checked the trouble shooting

It is 8x DVD+RW drive. The exact device manager string I see on my 8300 is "_NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD". I got another dvd writer on my old pc (Pioneer A06) and it came bundled with Nero express. I installed it on my 8300. Nero sees it. But I didn't use it to burn any dvd yet. But I was able to copy a movie using DVDxcopy to a +RW disc (on my 8300). First it had trouble reading movie disks off this drive. Once I set the region code from device manager properties applet for this device, everything started
