    Some suggestions: Try system restore in safe mode as administrator. Check for loose connections. Possibly your audio card is defective. Run the Dell diagnostics disk and see what it finds.

    I recommend that you use IE8. I have one site that does not work properly on IE8, but does work after I used the compatibility feature which automatically turns on for only this web page..

    I guess rednecks never need to update, but, this is a common problem. Find the update on Microsoft website downloads by searching the KB number and save it to your desktop. Then, find the offending update in Add/Remove programs, if it is there. Remove it. Go to the saved update after closing unnecessary programs and install it. This usually works. If a problem continues, contact microsoft for help.
