  • Re: DEAD PC DELL DIMENSION 5100

Hey Time Tunnel, No reason to be a d1ck about it. The guy was trying to help you - and you flamed him right out of the chute. A little tip - when you are asking for help, try not to attack the helpers - it goes much better that way. And oh yeah, they install spell check on these boards for a reason - use it. It's actually painful to read whatever it is you're crying about. Good luck - I'm sure you'll have people lining up to help you.

71, The limit is money and what you want to spend for the most part. There are some limitations with the hardware with some cards just too big to fit into the E510. When the NVIDIA 7 series came out Feb 06, the 7900 was the top dog. I settled for the 7600GT, primarily because it required no other upgrades. You just snap it into your PCI-e x16 slot and you are good to go - no upgrading of the power supply and no plug in adapters. The slot powers the card. The 7600GT was middle of the road at that

If you have high-speed internet and not dial up, it sounds like some spyware or virus slowing it down. You could roll back to a previous save point - a date prior to knowing when things slowed down or a fresh re-install of XP will clear everything out if it's spyware or viruses. I had the same exact card with a single TV tuner. I bought the EVGA 7600GT OC to replace the x600. It was a snap - there are directions on these forums that walk you through the steps. A new card will not affect your tv tuner

71, 2 GB most likely is not the cause of the major delays. What type of internet connection do you have? (The slow load times sound more indicative of an issue with your connection.) Have you always had the slow load times or just when you got this new computer? Also, what video card do you have now?

  • Re: Will a xfx 7600GT work on my E521?

The 7600GT requires NO additional power supply adapters or connectors. The card snaps into your PCI-e x16 slot and is powered by that connection. No power upgrade is needed either - the 305W is rock steady. The cost of the 7600GT is down to $100 (at least on Christmas Eve) at Newegg. Pretty simple add on and you will see a big improvement if you are moving from x300, x600 or integrated graphics. I know, I added an EVGA 7600GT OC into my Dim 5100/E510 and it's run without a hiccup since April 2006

240 pin DIMM. (You could pull one out and count them to be sure)
