The easiest path is to do an upgrade, as all the drivers are already present and not lost during the upgrade. Alsao some installed programs will work OK after the upgrade. Some will not, and require a re-installation. Many third part programs (utilities, etc.) need to be reinstalled with the most current version to work in W7.
-
You will need to uninstall the last three programs for the install to proceed. I had to uninstall six programs, and didn't need to install anything after the install finished. I don't know if the install will go ahead with an uninstall or upgrade of the CRS program. You can try without doing anything. I had a successful upgrade, and only needed to reinstall Windows 7 compatible versions of several third-party software.

Just delete what the installation says needs to be installed. You will get a driver installed during the installation. If it says you can reinstall the original driver, go ahead. The installation program just doesn't seem to like wireless during the installation. Make sure you connect to the internet by wire before the installation, as updates will be downloaded during the install.

The ID you need for the charger should be something like FA90PS or PA-10 Family. Search on-line for sellers. You can search on "Inspiron 1525 90 watt". Make sure it's a Dell authentic Dell, not a generic. Price will be much lower than Dell's. Because you need to wiggle the DC cord, the problem is more likely the DC socket on the system board. Solder connections for the socket have a bad habbit of breaking, and it is not easy to re-solder. Usually a new, expensive system board replacement

If you boot with the E1705 plugged in, does it stay on after the boot if you unplug the charger? It's possible you have a poor (high resistance) solder connection somewhere in the battery circuit that is reducing the voltage slightly from the battery. Dell's have lots of problems with DC power socket connections th the system board breaking due to too much wiggling of the power cord. You could open it up and look at the socket to see if there is a problem there. Re-soldering is not easy on

Go to the Nvidia web site and go to downloads. Enter the appropriate info and you should be directed to driver 186.81 for mobile chip sets using Vista or Win 7. These Nvidia drivers work well with most every laptop., and this last one didn't even need a reboot.
