thanks a lot , bh1633. It really helps me to understanding the Dell switch's configuration. Also, the vlan setting works now.

Thanks for your reply. for my this 2708, I have created vlan 2 for port 1 and port 2 , vlan 3 for port 3-6, vlan 4 for port 7 and 8. But all these 8 ports are still showing U in vlan1. is there a way I can use telnet or console in to change it from command line? John Yan

Hi I have a used 2708. Updated firmware and boot code when I got it. Recently trying to do vlan on this switch. But I found I could not take any ports out of vlan 1. All ports shows U on vlan1 and could not be changed. In other vlans I created, they are fine to change vlan mode from U to T to blank. But in vlan1, no matter how I click the U, it will not be changed. Any idea about this issue? Qiangbin Yan

Sorry Victor. It is not Dell's fault, it is Solarwinds. Solarwinds tools set can not recognize new MIB in Dell 6248. I tried another tool, Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool. it works like a charm. Thanks. Finally we solved this issue.

we upgraded the firmware to 3.0. and we can see all dot1qTpFdbPort and dot1qTpFdbStatus entries by Solarewinds Mibs Browser tool. But when we use Port Mapping tool , we still get the same error message "Does not support the Bridge-MIB" I noticed there are MIBs package in the lates firewware 3 zip file. Do we need to put the MIBs package into the switch? Thanks John
