Yes, I have long suspected that. But I really love this keyboard in every way! I can't even be bothered to get another usb keyboard to test it out

[quote user="ispalten"] Cosmos, Did you check the BIOS settings? I had a similar result after I installed A13. Went into the BIOS and found that it was set to check BOTH my DVD drives on startup. Re-set it to only the top one and the speed increased some. I've since found some INTERESTING data in the EVENT VIEWER (on my Vista 64 bit at least, not sure it is in all versions?). Open up APPLICATION AND SERVICES LOGS --> MICROSOFT ---> WINDOWS --> DIAGNOSTICS-PERFORMANCE -->

I just updated my Bios from A07 to A13. Everything went smooth just like any other updates. Timed my system startups...guess what? All 3 runs returned a longer boot time from push button to login screen. It used to take a consistent 2min 28sec with A07. Now with A13 it takes about 2min 35sec. I give up....... I'm still thinking the Illuminated keyboard is the culprit. Haven't had a chance to try it with a regular usb keyboard.

I will, if or when I do it. Wait...you mean there's a risk of running into problems with the update??

Thanks i-vol! That's simple enough like a typical Windows update that is automated/guided. Thanks for the step by step instructions, though. I wanted to be sure enough not to mess up!

Hey Jon, Is it an automated update from the Dell site? Or do I have to manually do the update? Can you give me clear step by step instructions on the BIOS update? I'm on AO7 now, and from the posts here, it seems that people are having faster boot times with A13. All these cautions and nightmare stories have made me nervous about messing with the BIOS. I'm very tempted to do it, but I want to be very well briefed so as not to make things worse. Thanks!
