Now that we've established you don't have a floppy drive in the computer go ahead and make sure the Diskette Drive field is set to off in BIOS.

jfl330, You've asked why it should take many hours for XP to install from the retail CD but haven't told us whether the OS Install Mode is set to Off or CPU speed option is set to Normal in BIOS. Either of these being on a different setting would cause the issue.
