While Robin is correct that your Dell warranty only covers hardware and therefore upgrading you OS will not void the warranty, it can cause you some support issues since this is not the OS that was factory installed. If you should encounter some issue that requires a technician to troubleshoot you system, you could be required to reinstall Vista so that the technician can determine if there is a hardware failure or if it might be something in the new OS causing the problem. I could not find anything official from Dell on their Windows 7 site when my friend in Ireland got their Vista Upgrade kit the shipping and handling charges were around $10.00US.

Look again. Redsonixx said that the system was ordered on June 29, so that would qualify for the free upgrade.

When I contacted Dell Customer Service and also Dell Sales representative, I was told that the order had to be placed on or after June 26th. So it would appear that even though the system has not shipped, it will not get the upgrade. This appears to be correct because now if you go onto the shopping site, the systems that are elegible for the free upgrade has "Windows 7 upgrade elegible" listed after the OS selection. Apparently this adds some kind of code to the system so that Dell/MS

All of the OEMs are limiting the offer to systems purchased on or after June 26th, so it looks like this is a MS requirement.
