Sounds like you installed Windows 7 on the e: partiton which is a recovery partition for Vista. It is not meant for adding files. Make sure Win 7 is installed on the C: partition.

The Dell product ID for the Dell XP CD will not work on a retail XP CD even if it the same version. Use the product ID for that came with the retail CD.

You get what you pay for. Dell does offer two and three year warranties. Sounds like the hard drive is bad. Run diags and see what it says. If you have to replace your hard drive and reinstall the OS, you can use a USB DVD drive to reinstall.

Please don't twist the facts. Dell's website says the integrated x4500HD graphics on my Studio Slim has DVI. It does not. The x4500 integrated graphics on my 537s does not. Dell's website is incorrect and needs to be corrected. I never mentions HDMI. You added that in an attempt to salvage your untenable position.
