m14x r2 WIFI won't turn on

Computer is only 2 months old, and running Windows 7 professional 64 bit.

I don't use wifi much, so mostly run with it turned off as I connect through a LAN.  Attempted to turn it on recently and the Fn + F3 did not bring up the dialog box that enables the wifi and Bluetooth to be switched on/off.

Dell service suggested updating the drivers for the Intel Centrino N 2230 Network card, but no difference after doing so.

Further Dell inquiries suggested a warranty replacement of the Network card, but contact with the local Dell service centre suggests that they would consider it a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Their fix, is, in the first instance, to go back to square one and re-load everything, then if that doesn't fix the problem then replace the Network card. I don't want to be without my computer any longer than necessary and would like to see if there are other options that smarter people than me can suggest.

I wonder if it could be something as simple as the F3 key not working, as unlikely as that is?

Device manager tells me the card is enabled and working. The card fails the Intel diagnostics due to being turned off, and the only option to turn it on is by the hardware switch--i.e. Fn + F3.

    The drivers are already updated. Request you to try following the below steps which might help:

    (1) Turn on the computer.

    (2) At the Dell logo, keep tapping F2 key.

    (3) BIOS screen appears, move to wireless tab, select wireless network and change it to enable.

    (4) Once this is done let the computer boot to windows.

    (5) Then try turning on the Wi-Fi using FN+F3 key and F3 key alone.

    If this doesn’t work, then the only option is to take the computer back to factory state by using the below link:

    Thanks for the response, as it partially fixed the problem.

    Found that Wireless was enabled, but I disabled and re-enabled it on the same boot with no change.

    Re-booted and disabled wireless this time through--not surprisingly, no change.

    Rebooted and enabled wireless, and here i am not sure if it booted up with wireless on, or my first Fn + F3 turned it on. It should be noted that no dialog box comes up, and Fn + F3 does NOT toggle the wireless as per normal.

    (Note the F3 key does work, as by itself it opens the windows search page)

    Wireless functionality is more important than being able to toggle it on and off, but any suggestions as to why that may happen? I have noticed that the volume control (Fn +  F7 F8 F9) also does not now display any onscreen message, although the volume is muted/adjusted as required and any changes are reflected in the taskbar speaker icon.

    But in any case I can live without the onscreen display, although I would like to have it working , if for no other reason than that it should.

    Due to a download error with the Command Centre, I did the OSD first with no success. I then completed the Commend Centre repair, and still no difference. I then repeated the OSD re-install and everything is back to normal. Yes

  • Hello, I also had some problems with the wifi command box appearing to turn my wireless back on by the FN =F2 so I downloaded the OSD and Command Center.  Now when I hit the FN +F2 I receive a pop up box that says check connections that I wish to turn on.  However all the boxes inlcuding the wifi box are uncheckable.  Says that a wifi driver isn't available.
