I have an alienwarem11x which i have had for around 3 years, recently i have been experiancing a 8-beep fault code, it logs on and shows the alienware logo then goes blank with 8 beeps. i believe this to be a graphics issue.
i have purchased a re-conditioned i7 motherboard and nvidia chip set, which i will be recieving shortly, however i am also experiancing a right click issue on my mouse touch pad, will this be a seperate part or will i need to order an aditional switch for this,is is the switch usually integral to the motherboard, im upgrading from an i5-i7 and hope it goes ok,
has anyone experianced the dreaded 8 beep fault code???
Alienware M 11x giving 8 beeps indicate LCD failure. However, request you to try following the below steps and check if it works:
(1) Try using an External monitor and see what happens.
(2) Turn off the computer
(3) Remove all the external peripherals like battery, AC Adaptor, flash drives, etc.
(4) Now press and hold the power button for 30sec which release the static on the computer (if any).
(5) Now check if the same issue happens.
(6) If the same issue happens, send me the system service tag through private message. I will check and let you know what needs to be done.
Dell has tested this model with i5 and i7 2nd generation processors, so it should work.
Touchpad is a separate part so you will not receive it with the motherboard. However I request you to use the below link and run a diagnostic test:

I have a M11X R2.
When you said "Dell has tested this model with i5 and i7 2nd generation processors, so it should work."
I can change only my processor, or I will have to change the motherboard.
What models of i7 will fit in my laptop ?
Thank's in advance.
Yes you can change the processor only on the same motherboard. You may try Intel Core i7-640UM, 1.2 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache processor.
Like Dell-Kiran said at the begining, the 8 beep codes indicates LCD failure, which means it could be the LCD cable, the connection to the motherboard, the graphics card, or the LCD itself, so when you replace the motherboard make sure all the cables are properly connected.
You do have to replace the entire motherboard, because the processor and the graphics cards are both integrated in it, and it's very hard to get them out of there without damaging the motherboard. When you replace the motherboard with the one you purchased, re install the operating system and all the drivers, test the system (and the touchpad) and check if it works, cause it could've just been a software issue, but if it still doesn't work after that, then the touchpad will need to be replaced.
