I hope I'm in the right spot. Like many others, I'm expecting my Studio XPS 9000 i7 system mid to late October. Since I'm a geek, I can handle installing Win 7 Ultimate 64 RTM even if it ships with Vista Premium 64 preinstall. I am 'hoping' I get lucky and somehow it shows up with Win 7 instead of Vista, as I would much prefer to retain my OEM hard drive with the 'as-shipped' win 7 image and accompanying bloatware preload just prior to yanking it out for the Seagate 1TB 7200 32mb cache sata drive I have 'standing by'.

I figured since you started this thread a couple of days ago and no one's still posted its mainly because they're still waiting on there pc lol. But hey i'll post here and say I can't wait to get the thing power'd up.
I'll try to keep an eye on this thread. I'm another one with a Studio XPS 9000 still in the production stage. I am really hoping that I'll have better luck with the media center in Vista and Win 7. The last time it worked smoothly was when I installed Win XP Media Center edition on the Dimension 8100. The service packs and updates really gave me headaches. I've given up trying to get the tv tuner to work, don't even remember how many codecs I've had to download just to watch dvds.
trmph
I was hoping for the same, mines not estimated to arrive till November 16th :( and was hoping to see 7 installed already as well.

Hey there!
As you know, we both ordered on 9/25 and I took delivery on Friday 10/16. Firstly, let me say that even though I knew this was going to be a big CPU, I was fully unprepared for the sheer gargatuosity of her. It's perfectly all right, but I wouldn't recommend putting this beast on TOP of a desk. Heh.
Mine shipped with BIOS Rev. 13 - for whatever that's worth. I have not experienced so much as a hiccup from the hardware. There is a bit of fan noise at startup but nothing that isn't expected. Otherwise, she's silent but purrs like a kitten when you give her tasks.
My issue is with Dell's policy regarding software. I had an issue in that straight out of the box, I used my given name for a user name (not thinking that I already had an identical user on my network) and I believe this is the reason my user account was "standard" and I could not get it to switch to an admin account for love nor money. Word of warning - your Dell will ship with a recovery partition and you're strongly encouraged to make recovery disks right away. I'm very glad I did, because that partition will be useless to you if you're not an Admin.
I'm also curious as to what the RA Admin (Remote Access I'm assuming) account is and whether or not I will keep it carrying Admin credentials. (I can change it before I call for assistance, I think.)
So anyway, there I was with a less than stellar beginning and I'm less than three hours after taking delivery. So I bit the bullet and called support. Big mistake. Seems that I have a *hardware warranty* but not a *software warranty* and in order for them to help me, I would have to shell out more than $200.00 additional to receive same. Uh - no thanks. I had an issue with my WLAN card, so I was transferred to hardware support, but after 30 minutes, I hung up. I ended up restoring to original settings and creating a new, differently named, user account for me and restoring back to before my Windows settings transfer which solved all of my problems.
Since then, I've been installing, installing, installing (all of my work software and play software). One thing I'm happy to see is there's precious little crapware. As a Stardock fan, I really am pleased to see the Dell dock on my desktop. It's a neat way to keep all your shortcuts organized.
Anyway, that's my OOBE thus far. Hang in there, y'all - she's SO WORTH the wait!

Proud owner of a 50-Foot Tall Studio XPS 9000!

Because my pc is quiet and i have non of the issue's from sleep mode or anything. yes the wait is well worth it, once u get the pc you kind of forget about all the complaining. I took delivery of my XPS 9000 on Oct. 21, 2009 at @ 5:54PM with great excitement. After waiting three (3) whole weeks and reading all the experiences expressed on the now famous “Let me tell you about my wait” thread, having my computer without any delays was much appreicated. Now, after having and “tweaking” my “beast” I feel it is time to join the community and offically become part of the Dell XPS family. It is indeed my pleasure to join the numbers of those who know first hand the joy (and at times nightmare) of owning a Studio XPS 9000.
The only real issue I have had with my system is the video driver. It would at times freeze, reset, and then display a message in the system tray:
”Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered”
Three times the screen went blank and I had to do a hard reboot to get the monitor working again. Researching the error message revealed that this crash has been happening since @2007 with both Nvidia and Microsoft blamed each other for the crash: not a good sign for GeForce GT220 owners. However, not two days later did Nvidia post a new driver update and Dell provide complete instructions on how to correctly remove and install the drivers. This baby has been humming ever since with not one error related to the video driver.
Updating to Windows 7 went without a wrinkle is my experience. All the programs Windows wanted me to remove before installing was not a problem, as well reinstalling them once the installation was complete. I have been enjoying both the pleasure of my XPS 9000 running Windows 7 with my only regret is having to get off the machine due to lack of sleep or some other pesky responsibility we humans have to put up with. This machine is like a dream come true for this writer; for those waiting for their machine I can only offer my happiness with what Dell has produced with the aid of other hardware components.
Yes, there are problems with the unit, but so what; this beauty is here to “git er done”, and she is doing just that. I will post my full specs later, just wanted to jump in and add my name to the list. I do look forward to sharing experiences and knowledge of what little I know. Again, the pleasure is all mine…
