Hello XPS Club users

This XPS Club group is for people interested in sharing their XPS experiences and learning social media. In my opinion, Social Media is content (words and images) created by ordinary citizens and shared easily across the web and offline. You can be a creator, a commenter, or just someone that reads the occasional blog post or watches the video that gets forwarded to you by a friend. Community is our online environment where people come together to learn, share, explore common interests. Social Media is the content exchanged within a Community.

At Dell, I have been a part of our company’s social media efforts for several years and we have had some successes and some valuable learning’s. This blog will show our steps and future plans. You will hear from multiple team members on topics such as community recognition, building a support forum, measuring social media and community across languages.

I know that the Forum transition has been tough on many of you users. My hope is that you will embrace the new XPS Club Group and use the Blog, Wiki, and Forum.

New to the dell community cheers everyone!

just got a xps 710. waiting till tuesday for it to arrive

Hello Everyone. I have been running this 435 MT for about 4 weeks now.  It is very fast and have not seen the system lock up.  The only question I have is this: When the computer goes into power save mode, it will sleep for a bit, but then I will see it go back to the terminal screen and the screen saver will activate again and it will eventually go back into sleep mode. It appears to repeatedly cycle this way.  Is this normal for a computer to wake up from sleep mode without touching the mouse or keyboard?

Hi, I too have the 435 and mine does the same. So, my guess is, that's normal. Have you found out otherwise? If so, would you let me know.

Thanks'

RW

Hello Chris, I just baught an XPS 630, the one with the free 20" monitor and 8gigs of Mem.  I heard that I can change the color of my lights on my tower(LED I guess).  I tried restarting and hitting F2, but it won't let me go to the BIOS option.  So I then went into my Nvidia settings and all there is in there is:  3D Settings, Display, Storage, and Video & Television.  There is no option for Performance with LED option.

Am I able to change my LED lights?

Thanks

Randy, hello, I purchased the Dell Studio XPS 435MT, and would like to hear from others about how they like or dislike their system? As for me? I REALLY enjoy its speed!   Yes

Hello,

I'm new to the group and based on what I've seen, I must be the only one with an XPS 410.  Anybody out there have one?

Yup, I do. Bought in October '07 originally with Vista 32-bit and raid 1. I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium which works well and I would recommend the move to Windows 7. My Dell AIO 946 was shown on the Dell site as 'Windows 7 compatible' but the upgrade didn't install the printer drivers. Had to do a uninstall, reboot and re-install, but now everything works well. Hardware reliability has been good, but I have had three instances of 'software issues' with the raid setup. I upgraded to the Intel Matrix Console driver @ the Intel site as Dell's driver site still had an older version. All was well until just recently, then had another raid issue, which Dell support walked me thru to fix (they also fixed the other two issues) . I have since upgrade the video card and installed another two Mgs of memory for a total of 4. Overall, I am satisfied with the 410. Don't do a lot of 'heavy lifting' with it, more of a 'plain vanilla' user...no wireless, routers, etc. Hope your experience has gone well.

Lets have a look sometime for real excitement

New to dell forum, Just got my new dell XPS M1330 that I ordered for my daughter to have while she is in the Air Force, opened it up and it is the wrong color it was shipped to me in black when I odered midnight blue and the sound card was down graded all wich was Dell's fault when I placed my order on line they called me to confirm it and I changed one thing that day and that was wireless card but the tech who called me changed the color of the shell and the sound card and now Dell won't do anything about it I've called every number I can find and all they tell me is that was how it was ordered so it's my problem even though I have the origanal order number that shows how I ordered it. Does anyone know who to get a hold of and how to fix this?

New

I have a XPS M1330 laptop (Vista Ultimate 32) and an XPS730 desktop (Vista Ultimate 64)

Who decided on a 100mbit NIC for the laptop?

I am finding some difficulty in getting my IO drivers to not break the 64 bit windows.  They are all Dell drivers, but unless I leave the IO driver alone, it breaks and I have to reinstall with an error message BEFORE the OS loads (so no safe mode and no system restore).

When it works, it works great, but if XP could see all 6 gb of RAM that is what I would use.

Windows 7 is supposed to fix all that driver stuff, but I still wonder about the benefits of 64 bit over the risks.

Hi folks, Im new to this goup and a little new to dell. I have an xps m1530 250GB drive, 2.6ghz, 15.4"

I have to say i do like it, this being my 1st Dell product.

I had a little problem with my dell restore facility, (F8) just to say Dell service were not to good in sorting it out. It's less than 4 months old and they said "GO TO PRESTO, YOULL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT"

I beleive my partitions are out of sync etc as Norton ghost refuses to restore to an earier time, (Drive invalid)

Does any king person have the correct partition settings for my model or even a partition image made by Acronis or Paragon which i can use to restore the correct settup. I have norton ghost images of my drive which will complete the restore procedure when the partitions are set correctly

Quite happy for you to email me/contact direct.

Look forward to any replies

Andy

when i 1st had my xps 420 the performance was great but would randomly lock up, id hear the hard drive spin loud, then itd work again. replaced both the motherboard and hard drive, reinstalled vista several times, nothing worked. then i installed win xp, and the locks went away Big Smile its been great for 9 months now

now the video card is crashing. dell is working with me to fix it, but the problem is it happens randomly, i cant replicate it on demand. so now im installing xp on a separate hard drive (i wasnt gonna refomat to test this out) for a fresh install to see if its the video card

New to the forum and hope my input will assist others.  I have an XPS 720 H2C which I purchased about 15 months ago.  This has been the worst computer I have ever owned.  Here is the issue, overtemp failure of several varieties.  The computer thinks it is overtemping and shuts down due to either a failed cooling unit, card cage fan failures or temp exceedance of some fashion.  This computer has had 3 mother boards, 2 liquid cooling units, 2 processors, 2 card cage fans, 1 case fan and a PS fan installed since new.  After each tech visit, the computer works for a few weeks, then back to shutting down.  I am exhausted with all the Dell trouble shooting I have done and all the service techs that have been to my home.  The local techs are on a first name basis with me, no joke!  I will say Dell has been responsive to trying to get this computer under control, but it is just a lost cause.  Last week Dell wanted to put the 4th mother board in and that was it for me.  I asked for a replacement system.  I asked for anything but another XPS 720.   well, they have shipped another XPS 720...   I will try it out, but I very dubious that this thing can function properly for more than 6 months.  I am afraid I am getting a refurbished unit and will inherit someone elses issues.

Has anyone else been having simular issues with a 720 computer?  Worst thing is I paid BIG bucks for this computer and I bought my son a cheaper Gateway computer and that thing cranks it out, no issues.  Now it's a houshold joke...  Hope someone out there has seen this before and can shed some light on this.  Thanks all!

Hope you are having better luck with your new system?

Forgot to mention, my pc can't go into sleep mode.  It tries, goes dark momentarily, then comes back up...

A newbie to the forum here --I have an XPS Studio 420 and have been fighting this machine since purchase last August.  First frustration momentary freezeups ---I have to wait it out or pull up the task manager and back out of whatever program I'm in.  Second frustration failure of the mouse to track properly.  'm on my 3rd. mouse now, a wireless, trying to find one that will work properly. Third frustration kayboard malfunctions. 'm on thrid keyboard now and have decided it is not the mouse or they keyboard, it's the system. As you can see by the above, everytime  I hit the capital "I" it either goes into italics or skips altogether.

This isbeyond doubt the worst excuse for a computer since my old clunker that ran Windows 3.1.  I don't know where to blame Dell or Vista........

Hello,  I have an XPS 420 and have not been satisfied with it's performance whatsoever.  For one, my internet connection drops intermittently all the time.  I've searched this site for people who've experienced something similar and tried some of the listed solutions to no avail.  If anyone else has some information on solving this issue, I would highly appreciate it.

My system is running Windows Vista Ultimate, sp1- 32-bit operating system

Faisal,
More information is needed for assistance to be provided. There are around 240 different blue screen errors that can occur in Windows XP. What's the error code on the blue screen you're getting?

XPS One. Core2 Duo @ 2.2GHz. 2 GB DDR2-667. WD2500AAJS 250GB SATA. Intel GMA 3100 video. 20" WSXGA HD LCD. 2 Megapixel Webcam. 8X DVD±RW. 8-in-1 Media Reader. 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless. Integrated High Def Audio. Internal Bluetooth 2.0. NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner. Vista Home Premium SP2.

I HAVE XPS M 1210 AND IT HAS BLUE SCREEN PROBLEM, ANYONE CAN HELP ON THAT ? I DON'T HAVE XP CD TO REBOOT FROM CD. IS THERE ANYOTHER WAY LIKE GOING FROM BIOS F12 or BY SAFE MODE F8 ??

THANKS
FAISAL HAMEED

Why don't we just set up an XPS M1530 forum for all the questions specific to this model? Perhaps just an XPS forum for laptops only. In the past there were so many problems listed daily. MY confusion was how many problems were really hardware versus software problems. I have been using my XPS laptop for about 6 months with minimal problems but I can relate to many of the difficulites listed previously in the XPS Forum. I bring my laptop back and forth to work and it is my only computer for work and play. As a physician I rely on it to log into my hospital and office. Loading the software on multiple computers would be tedious. I am jealolus that my practice and hospital are not Apple compatible. The I-Macs blow every other laptop out of the water. Although the XPS at first glance looks cool; it is built chintzy when compared to Apple Products. There are too many cracks and opening that allow dirt and grime to accumulate. It is not as durably built as other laptops and the speakers are horrible. In my opinion it is only a slight improvement over the Inspiron series. My son in school uses a Lenovo (IBM) thinkpad that is much stronger and can take alot more abuse. Anyway, i would appreciate other people feedback regarding laptops and what they would recommend in th e future.

any XPS one 24 owners ?  looking for feedback on the system

Thanks

By the way this is the EC number of Dell Service Center: EC-68897 and EC-1068897 Thanks to Dell any way.

What's up with the Profile Updater on the Forums? I've been trying to update my Profile since joining on 12/26/08 and all I keep getting is an error message!!! Other than that tidbit of frustration I'm stoked to now be a member of the Dell Community now...... Happy New Years from the Left Coast!!

AFAIK systems available in the outlet are just ones that have been returned to Dell for whatever reason, put through diagnostic testing/re-certification of some sort then marked as refurbished and resold through the DFO web site. I could be wrong but I'm not aware of any changes being made to their hardware configuration. The simplest explanation I can think of for your situation is an anomalous (or rather several) typo in the emails you received.

XPS One. Core2 Duo @ 2.2GHz. 2 GB DDR2-667. WD2500AAJS 250GB SATA. Intel GMA 3100 video. 20" WSXGA HD LCD. 2 Megapixel Webcam. 8X DVD±RW. 8-in-1 Media Reader. 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless. Integrated High Def Audio. Internal Bluetooth 2.0. NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner. Vista Home Premium SP2.

Maybe it is different when purchased from the Dell Outlet. That is where this was configured, and purchased. Drive 1) Module,DVD,16X,Sata,Half Height,Dimension,HLDS----- This is the DVD_ROM Drive 2) Module,Dvd+/-rw,16X,Half Height,Dimension,Hitachi Lg Data Storage,2 That is how they are listed on my order Details listing. But this does not agree with the emails. They are listed like this in the emails: 16X DVD +/- RW w/dbl Layer write capability ( This appears twice in BOTH of the emails.), then it changes for some unknown reason when listed on my order status page, and invoice listing. No ONE at DELL could explain why. Thanks SO VERY much for your interest and help. Steve I have the Order aknowledgement, and the order confirmation emails both on my Dimension 8300. i would be happy to forward them to you or anyone that might be able to help me or point me in the right direction

undertow39, that would explain it then. I've never known a Dimension or XPS desktop to be configurable with two burners factory-installed. I just used the online configurator to assemble the highest priced XPS 630 listed and the dual optical drive options are a 16x DVD-ROM + 16x DVD+/-RW & a 48x combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) + 16x DVD+/-RW. In all the years I've worked on Dell systems I can't recall ever seeing one that shipped with two burners either. What's the exact listing of the drives in your emails? The XPS queue phone number is 800-232-8544.

XPS One. Core2 Duo @ 2.2GHz. 2 GB DDR2-667. WD2500AAJS 250GB SATA. Intel GMA 3100 video. 20" WSXGA HD LCD. 2 Megapixel Webcam. 8X DVD±RW. 8-in-1 Media Reader. 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless. Integrated High Def Audio. Internal Bluetooth 2.0. NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner. Vista Home Premium SP2.

@ The _Namek The original configuration listed it with 2 burners. I burn way more disca than the average user. My 2 emails listed it with 2 burners. The invoice however listed it with one. What made it change? I wanted the machine because it has 2 burners. How do I get in touch with The technical support queue?? I would really love to put this to rest. Thanks for your help.

undertow39, although I don't know what your specific need for two DVD burners is, if both drives are listed on your 630i's packing slip but the system shipped without one of them having been installed then the XPS technical support queue should be able to dispatch one out. You don't need to be dealing with customer service. If the item wasn't in the system's original hardware configuration that would be a different story.

XPS One. Core2 Duo @ 2.2GHz. 2 GB DDR2-667. WD2500AAJS 250GB SATA. Intel GMA 3100 video. 20" WSXGA HD LCD. 2 Megapixel Webcam. 8X DVD±RW. 8-in-1 Media Reader. 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless. Integrated High Def Audio. Internal Bluetooth 2.0. NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner. Vista Home Premium SP2.

Hello folks, I ordered my XPS630i online, and it arrived very quickly. The thing is, what I ordered was not what I recieved. It was configured with 2 DVD-RW burners, and only shipped with one. The other optical drive is a DVD-ROM. After 10-12 telephone calls to DELL, the only help to me is that they are willing to accept a return on my machine. I kept telling them, I only want what I ordered and paid for IN ADVANCE. I have an aknowledgement email and a confirmation email, both auto-generated by DELL, with the configuration as I ordered it. When it shipped, it was different. Dell admitted to me, that they made a mistake, but will only accept a return, and refund. To me, it's like ordering a new car, and they give it to you with only 3 wheels.... The car dealer would correct it I thought to myself. Why won't DELL help me??????????? Anyone have a similar problem???

can any one tell me about bluescreen error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL.iam using dell xps 1530,vista home primium.i also use tata indicom to connect internet.

I think the XPS club is a great idea, but why restrict it to social media? I hope that XPS-specific technical questions could also be posted here in the discussions section (labeled forums on the left box). * In my Discussions post, "I still would like to see troubleshooting discussions out here. Dell-Chris M, This was the thread that I tried to post a comment to earlier and got some sort or error message. Sorry I did not write down the message. This forum is so frustrating to use. Of course I guess you have already heard that. People just want the forum to work as well as their computers. This is the second time I am tring to post this. The first comment disappeared as I was working on it. For a start where is the XPS forum-not the social club just the forum where help can be found. Annie

i am visually impaired so i was told i can use my xpsm1330 on my hdtv using a hdmi cable. i am worried this will not work. does anyone have any experience along these lines? my tv is a zenith 52" projection tv with a female dv1-hdtv jack in back. my son-in-law tells me there is a cable that has hdmi jack on 1 end and hdtv on the other. will this work? will i get audio as well as video through my television set? he also tells me radio shack sells a converter box for about $100 but will i need to upgrade my laptop to 4gb memory from 2gb or anything else to do? thanks for any help you can give me,even with zoom-text i have trouble reading ,but this is my first leap into computing so i spent what i could afford.
