Can anyone help me find a software program that will keep an autistic child in the one program that we want her to stay in? We want to prevent her from clicking out of the learning program she is in. The software will act sort of like a "tablecloth" and I'm not sure if it is called a "splashscreen" or what. This program must be for a pc using Windows XP, ME or 2000
I contacted a former colleague in Blue Valley Schools (Overland Park, KS) who worked a lot with assistive technologies and below is the reponse she gave. I can't personally vouch for the solution, but it looks worth checking out.
“I would think this type software would operate on the same basis as that of Zac Browser.(www.zacbrowser.com) I have included a link from www.peoplecd.com who developed this software specifically for children with autism. Once the student opens Zac Browser, they are not able to click out of the program or into other programs. There is a key combination to take them out of the browser. Many of the teachers that use this site with their students comment with favor on the feature of restricting the clicking.”
Great suggestion-I had never heard of that software before.
Chrisdono2-please let us know how it works for you and if you end up using the software that Bob suggested or if you find something else. It's always wonderful to see educators sharing their experiences and advice with one another.
Take care, Snow
