I have got the below error when running the Dell warranty extractor task. I have downloaded patches which verifies that there is a connection to the internet and there is no proxy info. I can also visit the Dell site and manually look up a service tag.

Error retrieving warranty information!: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index Please ensure that you are able to connect to the Dell support site before running the Warranty Extractor Task. You may need to setup the Proxy via Settings / All Settings / Notification Server / Notification Server Settings. Please ensure correct credentials are provided.

Thanks

Thanks Rob,

That is just a report from the discovery/inventory. It wouldn't give you any alerts or monitoring capabilities.

Any DMC feature request?

Cheers

Eric
Right, inventory report. It would be as current as the last inventory cycle. Since OMSA is generally not installed on a VM, we won't do any alerting. Can you direct vmware traps from the VM to the DMC server? Don't know.

More extensive VM features would likely not be added to the 'base/free' DMC product. But I'm not entirely clear on the roadmap.

Hello

After deploying the Altiris agent and installing Server admin, my Dell servers aren't being reclassified as such.I downloaded the SNMP test tool and, the machines are responding through OMSS OMSA or both. Did the second discovery using the SNMP credentials. Still not working.

Also, while I was troubleshooting this issue, I deleted a server, hoping an SNMP discovery would bring it back in. Now I can see the server reporting in the event console but it isn't listed under any devices.

Any help?

Last time someone had something like this they had used a mixed-case snmp community string and goofed it in the connection profile. Are you _sure_ your snmp read community is correct?

Also, try a discovery task with *just* the ip of the server. Not a range. That may help narrow down the trouble.

Re: DMC VMs Management
Hi

I am just wondering whether the future release of DMC is considering to have extra functionalities for VMs in Dell host. The current DMC manages, monitors and updates VM hosts. However, I believe that there is minimal functionalities when it comes to managing VM.

It would be nice to have a heartbeat or ICMP alert to poll the VMs to see whether they are live at a minimum. I believe that DMC can then out-perform and match against any free server monitoring tool in the market.

Cheers

Hey Eric,

Probably won't add more to the free VM support other than what is in DMC today. Did you run the VM report? It should tell you Operational and Enabled status.

Rob

VM's and their relationship to host server

Noticed this strange issue - not really an issue, more of a limitation really.

It appears that if you're running VMotion, the host to virtual machine association will associate a VM with multiple host servers. This is technically correct, but it makes the information less meaningful because it doesn't give you a real "point in time" host to VM association.

I double checked the snmp credentials and all looks good. I made the community string all lower case on purpose.

Also ran the single ip discovery on two different servers, two different subnets. These also returned no results.

If I understand the documentation correrctly, READ ONLY is the only right required for monitoring and alerting. Is this correct?

I'm not sure where to go from here. If the snmp test tool is successful, why would NS fail?

Re: SIM Download problems
The SIM says it cannot access

yet I can download it manually from the browser on the server.

So then I do that and place the xml file in the right directory. and tell it to use the one that cached

Then I get the Error

Have you retried recently?

It looks like a clear case of a connection issue with the default solutionsam SIM repository…

I am wondering if it was a temporary network issue or issue with the repository itself.

If upon re-launching SIM, you still get the ‘could not connect…’ message, then maybe it is an issue with proxy or firewall if either are present.

If you are using a proxy you can go into SIM settings and enter proxy information and see if that gets them connected.

DMC VMs Management

Hi

First off, we have a port whitepaper, check the media/download section. But you may have seen that.

I'm not an expert on NAT, but I asked around. These NAT configuration issues seem to be pretty common even with Dell's other tool IT Assistant and likely other sys mgt tools. One of my buddies in support mentioned this, sorry I can't clarify:

You have to have a two way NAT otherwise you would never get a reply.

Since NAT presents a since IP address on behalf of multiple clients there would need to be a significant firewall change made (port triggering and port forwarding). The best solution would be to have a VPN (IPsec or SSL) and then make your queries. Firewall exceptions are messy and not universal in their implementation.

Re: Inventory task for a group not working

I run a inventory task against a single server and that work fine.

At this stage it looks like we will have to give up on DMC and go with another solution that can do this (most likely agent based).

The issue we have is that the servers are discovered, but categorised as "Unknown", thus none of the Dell performance or monitoring tools will work.

Thanks
