Dell Dup Catalogue import failure

Hi,

I have a bunch of dell servers under the Dell computers category already but the Dell dup catalogue import task failed on my DMC hence I can't do any patch management. I have tried importing cab files from local directory and the dell ftp site. Both return an error without any error messages. I can see the 2 xml files in the directory, so I think there must be some checks running against my dell servers that are failing. I also checked the error log and found the followings:

Manifest Import – error importing Bundle Resource: unable to update the specified item from the Altiris NS database

Manifest Import – error importing Bundle Resource: unable to move the specified item to another folder

Can anyone share some lights here?

Hey Eric,

The catalog on the ftp site looks good.  It just imported ok on my box.  Any more detail in the log viewer?

DMC on a physical box or VM?

Hi Rob,

DMC (the new version which was released last week v1.02) is running on a physical Window 2003 enterprise server with SQL 2005 SP2.

All imports (Computer models, devices, software) were imported successfully except the Bundle import. I get the errors

Manifest Import – error importing Bundle Resource: unable to update the specified item from the Altiris NS database

Manifest Import – error importing Bundle Resource: unable to move the specified item to another folder

Some bundles (different number every time) failed to import resulting the failure of the task. Seel below for error log.

I realise that DMC 1.01 and 1.02 use different methods of importing Dell catalog. 1.02 is using importcatalog.exe for Dell Patch management only. 1.01 uses the Altiris host services (AtrsHost.exe). I wonder if this new method is the cause of the error.

Hi Eric,

There is no change in the catalog import mechanism in 1.0 and 1.0.2 Both use ImpotCatalog.exe for importing catalog. 1.0.2 supports additional update types as required for Maser in band patching other than that the processing logic is not changed.

I have resolved the issues by removing all the imported Dell software updates and Dell bundle and re-importing them. However, I have done it couple of times (deleting and re-importing) before the DUP import returns a success status. There are like 400+ bundles and 1000+ software updates and each time I can only delete 40 records from the resource manager. So it is rather time-consuming. I have found the tables with the Bundles and SW updates in the database, but I am reluctant to run a delete query because the resource associations stay in the database.
