  • Memory Module Problems

Now, I own a dell Inspiron 1721 and have recently bought 2 gig of ram, just to speed things up a little! However, when I recieved it, it came in two sepeate modules of 1 gig. Not to worry I thought as every website says the Dell Inspiron 1721 has 2 slots. Opening up the back of my laptop, I could only...

  • Dell Mini9 Default Kernel does not recognize the full 1gb of RAM

Hiya Dell, So far I love my Mini9 that shipped with Ubuntu factory installed; however, a fairly major oversight seems to have been made, when the kernel was compiled high mem was not enabled. I could compile a kernel myself, I've done so countless times before, but I would prefer in this situation...

  • Losing gigs and gigs of memory

Hey folks. Got a problem with my desktop. The problem is that every so often when I check 'my computer,' it always has a lot less free space than it did before. For example, over the past few weeks it went from 80, to 70, and then in the last few days all the way down to 47 and now 40 gigs of...

  • Re: Losing gigs and gigs of memory

Hey guys, thanks for the advice, but I found out what the problem was. A friend of mine looked through my C drive and the folders in it, and found that Trend Micro (the anti-virus program) had accumulated over 150 gigs over the last two years. So what happened was: 1. A virus got to it, and spawned all...

  • Re: Fans have stopped, then the GPU died.

I got various errors duing this process all indicating a problem having to do with the graphics card, graphics memory, graphics adapter drivers and fan on/off failure. Here was the solution: I installed a fan utility: I8kfanGUI This allowed me to turn on the fans as needed. I found when I turned the...

  • Dimension 4600 - too slow problems

Hi I bought a Dimension 4600 a few years ago and I've always had problems with it being so slow. Thought I'd find out if you think it is worth buying some more memory for it? It only has 256MB of Ram - is this too little? Or should I scrap it and get a new laptop.

  • Inspiron 6000 Will Not Boot After Memory Upgrade

I decided to upgrade the memory on my Inspiron 6000 from 512 MB to 2GB and now the computer will not even turn on. Before doing anything, I upgraded the BIOS and confirmed that the machine booted after doing this. Then I unplugged everything and removed the battery before replacing the two 256 MB chips...
