  • Alternative replacement motherboard for Dimension E520?

OK - motherboard fried in a thunderstorm, so now need a replacement for the Dimension E520, model no. WG864. Phoned DELL - they checked and said they haven't got any new or even refurbished ones in the whole of the UK, and suggested trying the US or eBay to find one. Did find some independent suppliers...

  • Re: XPS M1530 - lots of problems and no customer support

Update: Called Dell specialist twice yesterday and today and left messages. Her voicemail says she's there. No returned call. Called Customer Care. Explained that yesterday tech support told me the only way to get the RIGHT computer was to talk with the specialist who ordered it for me. But she's...

  • XPS M1530 - lots of problems and no customer support

I got my new XPS M1530 3 weeks ago. Have had LOTS of problems with the computer and have spent hours and hours on the phone being transferred in circles from one support person to the next. If you have any of these issues with your new XPS 1530, you are not alone. I was getting error messages when I...

  • PCI Express Backwards compatibility?

Long story short, can I use a PCI Express x1 card in an express X16 slot? I've got a PCI express x1 card (the type with the very short connector), and a spare PCI x16 lots (the type with the very long connector). Is the PCI-E X16 slot backwards compatible with PCI-E X1 cards? And if so can I just...

  • Re: what kind of cmos battery to buy?

Greets, everyone. I just replaced the 3-V CR2032 lithium coin cell CMOS battery on my Dimension 8300. Dell's battery-installation instructions are _not_ so very good -- Step 8 & the pic, in particular: It's physically impossible to remove the battery by "prying it out of its socket"...

  • Identify MOBO A10385-406

Help, I'm trying to identify a motherboard that I have. It was taken out of the case a long time ago and the case was discarded (as all Dell cases don't leave enough room to expand excessively, a cheap $20 non-proprietary case always fixes that!!). The AA number (as suggested by Intel to use...

  • New Motherboard for an XPS gen 4

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me. My motherboard on my XPS Gen 4 has died and I need to buy a new one. The trouble is I don't know where to start. I'm happy to buy a new processor if I have to. I have tried to look at differnet websites but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I have...

  • Northbridge cooler too hot?

Hi all, I have this dimension 5150 and was curious about its normal operating temperature. Is it normal for the small heatsink to the right of the cpu to be extremely hot. Just touching it would give a small burn. The cpu cooler is very cool in comparison. Windows is sitting at its desktop and no screensaver...

  • Configuring RAID on Vostro 420

Hello, I would like to set up the Vostro 420 with RAID 1, but there I cannot find the option to activate the raid in the BIOS. I have read in the Vostro 420 user manual that there should be a "Drives" menu in the bios, but this menu does not appear. Is it possible that this Dell was delivered...

  • Re: Identify MOBO A10385-406

Chris, What I need is the layout of jumper #10 from the link you sent (Control panel connector J8C3). Dell cases are of little use to me when they do not have enough space for standard connections of HDD's, CD/DVD drives, or a plethora of other necessary accessories. My use for this motherboard is...
