My E521 unexpectedly shuts down. Sometimes it is OK for days then it will shut down and go into a loop where it is unable to get past loading the Bios. I have already replaced the power supply but that didn't help. How do I determine if this is a power switch problem or a hard drive issue? Any ideas...

I have a Dimension 3000 (pentium 4 @2.8 GHz w/ 1M cache) that has a total of 512 MB DDR SDRAM @ 400 MHz. Was wondering if I would notice any increased performance if I upgraded the memory with 1GB or 2GB of RAM? There are 2 available slots on the motherboard.
