  • Dimension 9200 Memory Upgrade

I've just added 2-1gb memory modules to my Dimension 9200. The system recognized the memory on boot. However, in the general tab of the system info, it only shows 3gb not the installed 4gb. The system info includes: Computer Model Dell DXP061 BIOS Vendor Dell Inc. BIOS Version 2.5.3 BIOS Date 11...

  • Dual Channel memory, 2 or 4 sticks, which is better?

I recently picked up a Dell GX620 desktop. It has dual channel, hyperthreading, with 4 DDR2 RAM slots. It can only hold 4gig of RAM. Which is better - 2 sticks of 2gig RAM, or 4 sticks of 1 gig RAM? I've been told that the dual channel only refers to the memory sticks, not the processor. But which...

  • Re: Dell XPS 400 Ram upgrade problem

Is the 3.5G of max memory confirmed with the chipset? I have an XPS 400 that I just installed 4-1G sticks of RAM into (ordered from Dell web site). I am running Ubuntu 8.10 x64 edition, and a "cat /proc/meminfo" shows: MemTotal: 3345916 kB MemFree: 106888 kB Buffers: 100864 kB Cached: 2016524...

  • Dell Dimension 5150 with 4GB RAM

Hi, I installed 4x1GB sticks in my Dimension 5150 as the documentation says it supports upto 4 GB. But right now the XP Home SP3 shows only 3.25GB. I'm not sure if I have the latest BIOS, but I can install that too. Is there any other solution other than the BIOS update (not sure if that'll help...

  • Increasing memory base score

The performance information and tools screen has been a place of wonder and frustration for me. My Inspiron 530 came with 2GB and the base score was 4.8, which I guess is on the good side. Skipping the superfluous details, now I have 4GB and the memory speed is 800Mhz. I realize that 32-bit Vista addresses...

  • XPS 410 - Is the 4 GB memory limit for real?

Dell specs show XPS 410 desktop as only supporting 4 GB of RAM. When I took the desktop into a store to upgrade the memory, the tech looked up XPS 410 and told me the chipset would only support 4 GB. Yet I see a LOT of (non-Dell) web pages claiming the memory limit is 8 GB. Has anyone upgraded their...
