9200 sound with win 7

I just upgraded to Win 7 64 bit and no issues so far except the built in Sigma sound is dead even though it shows working in all the icons. I downloaded the only file at Dell for 64 bit/9200 sound but still no sound. Even tried head phones and different jacks. Is this a common issue and do i need to buy a sound card?

Re: 9200 sound with win 7

The Vista 64 bit drivers on the Dell downloads, HERE   should work OK.

Did you "upgrade" from Vista 64 bit? or did you go to Windows 7 from Vista 32 bit or Windows XP?  If you went from a 32 bit or XP to Vista 64 bit that meant you had to do a complete new install.  On a new install, the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Intel chipset drivers, which define the devices on the motherboard, (3) Install device drivers including sound, video, ethernet, etc.  And, you need to install the Dell SigmaTell drivers, do not allow Windows to install generic or non-Dell drivers for the sound.

If you skipped the chpset drivers, install them and then reinstall the Dell SigmaTel drivers again.  This usually takes care of the sound problems on an install where the chipset drivers were skipped, but in a few cases it will take a new and correct sequence install.

Strange!!!!! I moved the cable from the black to the green and all is well in Mudvale. It was working on the black on XP 32. Now I wonder if it was ever on the right jack. I could have swore I tried every jack after my first load.

Oh well//something fixed it. Probably your directions.

Thanks,

The green jack is the speaker jack.  The black jack is the "line out" but that can also be used for a speaker out as long as the line out is enabled in the sound setup.  Apparently with the upgrade/reinstall the line out was not set as the "default" output and the reason there was no sound.

Thanks! Yes, I remember that it was a line out now since I have amplified speakers. This has not been my main box for at least two years. However the black has a different output now// LR&RR rear channels! ARGH!
