Host Process for Window Services

Hello,

My Vista 32 PC, keep saying the "Host process for Window Services stopped woking and was closed."  What is this message all above? Scanned the PC with MBAM, SAS, Norton 360  3v, all clear no virus or spyware.  But, started having problem with Norton 360, therefore, I uninstalled it.  Downloaded the Microsoft Security Essentials and enable Window Firewall.  I had checked for Window Updates and my PC has the current updates.  Still, the problem exist.  Also, I received a Base Filter...somethings and it disapear, then the DEP pop up and the setting was ON and protecting the PC.  I believe it not a malware related issues because the Microsoft Security Essentials stated that my PC is clear.  Please, can somebody help me or direct me to the right forum.  Also, I'm getting a blue screen and the Window Error Recovery.

Re: Host Process for Window Services

Hello joe53,

Hey, thanks.  SmileI did some tests and found the following:

Under Window Memory Diagnostic, System Recovery Option to repair Vista

  1. "Hardware problem were detected, contact the manufacturer for further help"Sad
  2. Data Bus Stress Test: Failed.  Memory compare error, DIMM1 Test failed.Sad
  3. Also I cannot reformat to the factory setting.  Under the Advanced Boot Options menu, when I select Repair Your Computer, it will boot into the Normal mode.  Therefore, it does not give me the Dell Factory Image Restore.  Then I cannot reformat the hard drive (maybe because of the Hardware Problem detected).
  4. Also, tried the System Recovery Option to repair Vista OS.  But nothing happen.  I believe, it said the OS was Ok, I don't remember.  But when i booted  into Safe Mode it found an OS error.  That is why I did this test.
  5. I don't know what to do now.  Maybe, buy a new PC (perhaps W7)?  I still have the   XP (HP PC).  I don't like Vista anymore. Sad
  6. Anymore Ideas, that would helped with my PC problem?
  7. Also once and awhile, when I turn on my PC, it will do a CHKDSK "checking the NTFS C drive:  then it will boot into Normal Mode.
  8. I went to the Vista forum and it seems that people are having similar problem.  But I found no solution yet.

Anyway, thanks a lot joe53 for all your help.Big Smile

Re: Host Process for Window Services

I wish I could provide more help, but I don't use Vista.

You might get more help in the MS Operating System forum here:

Re: Host Process for Window Services

tps,

taking the diagnostic at face value --- that is to say, assuming the report generated is reliable, accurate, and complete --- it would behoove you to replace the defective component [memory chip??] before considering things like reformatting to factory spec, or recovery options, or even reinstalling windows.   All of these software repairs take for granted your hardware system is functioning properly --- that is to say, none of these procedures (if you get them to run) will repair the failed/failing hardware... meaning your problem will continue.

first, you may want to somehow confirm the diagnostic report.   (I don't know enough about the hardware to suggest how to do so.)  If confirmed... and if you have reason to believe this is the only hardware problem impacting your system --- that is to say, you don't want to fix this, only to then find out something else will be detected as defective --- you can consider fixing/replacing that one component.    If it's just the memory, that should be reasonable enough to replace.   But if the "data bus" is part of your CPU chip/card, that might be more expensive.   Someone else will have to offer you guidance here.

Depending on the estimated cost for repairs, you can then compare things to the cost of a new system.
