It's a perfectly valid question, not stupid at all. This depends on what version of Win 7 you are installing. Check this chart for the answer. If you are required to do a clean install, you will have to reinstall everything--programs, files and settings. Even if you are not required to do a clean install, you should consider it. That's the best way to start out with a new OS.
