Trying to be green with external monitor on MacBook Pro

Just pulled my new Dell G2410 24" Green monitor out of the box and hooked it up to my 13 inch MacBook Pro. I have searched high and low for ANY support on how to get the monitor to work better with the computer. For now, it's grainy and clunky at best. I'm doing graphic design work that requires detail in small typography on screen. Don't want to send it back, but seems like I have to. Wish Dell had support for Mac, not just Windows downloads. Do I have to get the UltraSharp model to have clear rendering of typography?
