Installing Windows Server 2003 R2 on an R610

Hello,

I have a new r610 and I'm trying to install windows server 2003 R2 on it. If I use the dosa cd it doesn't accept the R2 disc as it only has an option for window server 2003 in the setup.

I tried to boot directly from the Server 2003 cd but no luck. Do I need to install the perc drivers? if so how, usually I'd do it by hitting F6 during the windows setup but I can't even get that far.

I've checked the SATA options in BIOS and they're set to ATA which is the mode that works fine on my laptops.

Please help..............

What do you get when you try to boot to the CD? Does it look like it's trying to start the install, but then error out, or does it error out or something?

You will indeed need to install the PERC drivers as Windows 2003 doesn't have them natively (this assumes obviously that you have a PERC).

The SATA option in the bios is irrelevant if you're using a PERC, as that's only if the harddrives were connected to the onboard SATA controller (I'm not even sure if that would be supported).

As for the media, the Windows 2003 R2 boot disk isn't really "R2". The R2 part is on the 2nd disk that it asks for after the OS is installed and you log on for the first time.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I 've got it working now. I was using the wrong cd!. We get technet cd's and one of them was labelled "Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition,Service Pack 2"

I'd assumed this was the OS and service pack bundled as one but it's just the service pack alone.

anyhow, got it going. Thanks for clearing me up about the PERC and sata anyway.
