McAfee antivirus

I am new to the forum so forgive me.  I really need some help, I upgraded to Windows 7 on Saturday.  I have been on a live chat with tech support trying to figure out why I can not receive updates for my McAfee software.  McAfee will scan my laptop,  but I can't receive updates for my product.  I was finally told by the tech that Windows 7 has compatibility issues with McAffee anitvirus.  Can someone give me a solution, I already tried McAffe they told me I had to go throught Dell since I just brought my system less than two months ago.  Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance

Hi Bklyn mocha and welcome,

 

Your copy of McAfee may have somehow become corrupted.

First, let's try running the McAfee Virtual Technician:

Let it fix any errors it finds, then open McAfee and select Update.

Hi Bklyn.

This is typical McAfee blames DELL and DELL blames McAfee. When I had McAfee (It came with my comp), I registered the software in McAfee´s web page. I got my user and # account through McAfee and all updates and patches came through McAfee. Have you registered your Security Center?. If you have done so, you have to download and install the latest McAfee version to W7 through McAfee web page.

Read below and pay attention to #6 and #7.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help me.  I got so feed up I had a chat with Norton, which I already had on my desktop Antivirus 2009...  Believe me if McAfee did not come with my laptop for free, I wouldn't have used it.  Anyway spoke to a rep at Norton I was able to upgrade from antvirus 2009 to Norton Internet Security 2010 for free and it covers both my desktop and my laptop.  Now I am up and running and protected without any issues.
