NTLDR is missing - will not boot after upgrade to Windows 7 from XP Media Edition

It is my understanding that the NTLDR file is part of the XP boot up but is not used to boot up Windows 7. This is on a DELL Dimension E520 that came new with Windows XP Media Edition.  After upgrading the memory, the graphics card, and installing the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) I repeatedly receive the Error Message: "NTLDR is missing - Press Ctl-Alt-Del to restart" and the boot process terminates.  I am looking for a solution to resolve this fatal problem.  Thank you for your help.

Re: NTLDR is missing - will not boot after upgrade to Windows 7 from XP Media Edition

Hi

1)Did you checked any external device is connected to the system (like flash drive etc...) if yes, remove it and try.

2)have you uninstalled the XP while loading Win7?

3)have u completed the Win7 installation successfully?

Just insert the Win7 disc in to your drive and try to boot from the Disc and select Repair option it will work.

Regards

You cannot "upgrade" from XP to Windows 7, you must do a complete new (clean) install, either to a separate partition on the hard drive or to a new or reformatted hard drive (the preferred option).  If this is not what you did, that is probably the problem.  You will also need Windows 7 (or at a minimum Vista) drivers as the Windows XP drivers are not compatible in most cases (especially the audio).  Also, on a new install (or reinstall) the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers including the Dell audio drivers (for integrated audio), video, ethernet, etc.
