HI, I was offered the following for my 6 month old M1730-- Due to all the nightmare with service......
This is what I have now.....
Hi, If your not too bothered about your CPU or your graphics card, then I would say it's ok, your getting an blu-ray rom drive and some extra stuff. I cant understand why they never offered a Win 7 coupon. But, if it was me, I would go with the new one .

I'd say the same thing. The CPU and GPU is lower on the newer one. If that is US dollars I'm seeing, then it is a pretty expensive laptop. If you are bent on gaming, then I'd reconsider with them and appeal for a GTS or GTX nVidia GPU version.

Sorry, I was comparing the bottom vs the top. Quad and GTS 260 is MUCH better. So, take the replacement. Free Win 7 would be nice. Ask for that if possible because Win 7 is much better than Vista.

Got a cool rig? Show it off here!
Well the CPU definitely isn't lower. First of the higher front side bus automatically means your going to be getting better speeds as well as the fact that it's a Quad Core which quite a few pieces of software are getting around to using all 4 units. Plus the added BD-ROM and your set. it's def a better machine. The other replies in this thread are useless... Pay attention people... That 260M is so much faster than the 8800 it's silly... Your talking about a card that is more than triple the 8800's throughput... It's like trading in a Ford Fiesta for a Acura Integra... GET IT!!!

There is definitely not a big difference in value between the two. The newer does have a better graphics card though and faster RAM AND a faster hard drive. The new one doesn't have the extra battery on the other hand, if your into gaming, your probably going to want a lot of battery life. I would go with the newer system, it got a better overall value performance wise even with the less battery life its a sweet deal to me.
If they are giving you the replacement system 'NEW' (not refurb), take it without a thought. Here's why I would:
1. Quad core processor (i.e. 4 cores) instead of dual core - with a larger cache (12MB vs 6MB), and a higher bus speed (1066MHz vs 800 MHz) - the minor difference in lower clock speed (2.53 vs 2.8) is far out-weighed by the other 3 features. Intel's comparison is at http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/Notebook/core2xe-detail.htm
2, Much faster RAM (1066Mhz vs 667MHz)
3. Faster HDDs (7200 RPM vs 5400)
4. Free upgrade to Win 7
5. A better video card (IMO)
6. A free further extension of 24 months of Anti virus subscription (advantage depends on how long you have already used your existing system/av subscription)
7. A newer Bluetooth interface (2.1 vs 2.0), may give you an few months compared to the old one before it becomes obsolete
8. A different, possibly better network card - not sure what "Dual Band" indicates in the new one - don't know much about fast changing wireless network protocols
I assume you get to keep the existing batteries - since they don't list replacements (not even one, vs the two you oringinally got). If you can wiggle new batteries out of them, all teh better
Good luck

MY BAD! I was looking at the bottom one as the one that was offered to you. If you're offered the Quad with the GTS 260...GO FOR IT!
Their replacement is FAR better than the one you have now.
HI
It doesn't sound that bad to me.
Good Luck
