6 Weeks for delivery is not acceptable!

On Oct 27, 2009 I spent the time to check thru many Dell laptops/notebooks and decided on the Studio XPS 16. I filled in my personal info and credit card and read the terms and conditions. I read that email will be sent that contains the shipping info. And so, once the order was placed, I received the email confirming the order and the 'estimated" shipment date which is December 7, 2009! <explicit removed>?!? Why can't that information be made obvious during the order process if it's obviously a known back order in the works? So tomorrow, I'm calling to cancel this order and take my business elsewhere. I'm on my 2nd dell in my office and we have many others also in use. I've grown accustom to using Dell's web site for ordering notebooks, but if this is the new service level that my purchases have been awarded ... well ... there are other vendors out there who will want to make a sale with delivery dates much less that this experience has been.

Seconded, I just got the same, it's outrageous... Can anyone tell me if it really takes this long? Or is it usually ready much earlier than the estimate? Almost every other item I've ever bought online has taken 3-5 days. How can it possibly take 6 weeks? And how can they have the cheek of telling you this only AFTER you've paid for it? Even with customisation I can't see how it would take more than 2 weeks and the only thing I customised was the colour, which should take someone all of 5 minutes to swap over. Very disappointing.

Welcome to the club! Many people here have waited a long time for their Xps 16 System and are still waiting because Dell "forgot" to tell us about the serious delivery problems they have with some components. Before you pay, they tell you delivery takes 10-12 days, as soon they got your money delivery suddenly takes many weeks. This business "strategy" is not very nice.

6 weeks? Lucky. My Studio XPS 16 was ordered in September, current estimated delivery date is in December.

Apparently, I got really lucky. I ordered mine on Sept 25 and got it Nov. 11, but that was after I complained several times about the delay. Also, they forgot to install the upgraded sound card. ugh... No way I'm re-ordering it at this point.

Re: 6 Weeks for delivery is not acceptable!

I got suckered as well. I ordered a XPS 435/9000 during their Halloween event. I talked to a rep and they said 10-15 business days to build and ship. I asked could I get faster shipping if I paid extra and he said no, not with this deal.

Anyway, I ordered the system on Nov 1st and it still lists as in production with a ship date of Nov 30th. I have been told I cannot cancel this order because it is in the "in production" phase.

Very frustrating Dell!!!!

Some possible good news today! I checked my order-status and it says my order has shipped today! Less than 4 days after I ordered it! This is after only 2 emails in which I expressed my displeasure at the 6 week delivery estimate. I wonder if they're just overestimating after all the recent trouble with the XPS laptops... Here's hoping it's actually true!

Have you ordered your XPS with Core I7?

I ask, because this CPU is the reason many people are waiting for their laptops.

Re: 6 Weeks for delivery is not acceptable!

I ordered mine on Nov 1st and had an estimated delivery date of Nov 30th. I received an email this morning that my XPS 9000 has shipped....so hopefully I'll see it next  week sometime.
